San Ildefonso Two-Tone Kiva Bowl by Anita Martinez
This signed blackware kiva bowl by San Ildefonso potter Anita Martinez has a unique tan fired strip around the mouth, where the natural clay color shows through and is not oxidized black. The effect is very pleasing and highlights the rim of the bowl nicely. The bowl measures 4 ½” height and 5” diameter, and is in excellent, original condition. This is a rare example by an important potter.
Anita Martinez (1920s-1992) was the daughter of Santana and Adam Martinez, and the granddaughter of Maria Martinez. Her daughter, Barbara Gonzales, is also a notable potter.
