Hopi A’hote Kachina Doll, c.1950s

This traditionally-carved Hopi kachina doll dates to the 1950s, and depicts A’hote, a hunter kachina. A’hote can appear in many different colors, and this orange one is very unique. Although this depiction of A’hote is missing his Plains-style headdress, he is distinguishable by the stars painted on his face, his snout, his red tab ears, and his pop eyes. The doll measures 14” height, and stands on his own, or displays well on a wall. This doll is carved from pine rather than cottonwood root.
