Three Strand Santo Domingo Fetish Necklace, c.1950s

This is a three strand Santo Domingo fetish necklace from about the 1950s. The necklace has hand-carved shell bird fetishes, and turquoise and coral nuggets interspersed between traditional white clam shell heishe. The necklace even boasts a "sing piece"—a single hard-carved Catlinite bird fetish attached to one of the necklace's silver conical endings. Measures 32" end-to-end with a hook and eye closure.
