Old Tesuque Bean Jar, c.1885

This is a classic example of a Tesuque lidded bean jar, although in this case, the lid is missing (which is not unusual). This piece has a large presence, and measures 11" height and 12" diameter. The jar has a band of red clay slip around the base and the base is polished paste. The interior shows ethnographic use. The jar has one crack repair, and is otherwise fully intact. Classic floral designs and three pairs of black framing lines complete the design.
