Small Hopi Canteen by Nampeyo, c. 1920
A small yellowware canteen by Hopi pottery matriarch Nampeyo. The designs on this piece as well as the yellow slip were both inspired by prehistoric pottery found at Hopi. Nampeyo's pioneering work in this style and the subsequent movement among Hopi potters is known as the Sikyatki Revival movement. Measures 4 3/4" in diameter by 4" long by 3 3/4" high. An iconic piece of Hopi history.
