Polacca Open Bowl by Nampeyo, c.1885

This early Polacca open bowl by Nampeyo dates to about 1885. The slip shows great craquelure, a defining characteristic of Nampeyo’s early work, and this piece is an early creation of the Sikyatki Revival. The design is Nampeyo’s original variation of a traditional Hopi split circle design. The abstract design suggests dance sashes, and is similar to the design on the Polacca canteen by Nampeyo (P4454). The bowl also has Nampeyo’s signature rain drops on its rim. The bowl is in excellent, original condition and measures 3 ½” height and 8 ¾” diameter.
