Eskimo Ivory & Northwest Coast Tribal Art

Eskimo Ivory & Northwest Coast Tribal Art

Expanding far beyond the Southwest, we add diversity to the collections in the forms of beautiful carvings from the tribes of the Northwest Coast, Alaska, and Arctic regions. Eskimo Ivory carvings have been a popular collectible for centuries. The earliest explorers in the area were sailors and walrus ivory and whale bone carvings had great appeal as souvenirs of successful journeys. In our collection you will find Ivory carvings from as early as 1900 and as recent as 1950. Many other art forms are associated with the great tribes of the Northwest including the most recognizable, carved and painted cedar masks, totem poles, and feast bowls.
