Contemporary Hopi Plate With Whirling Logs by Rachel Sahmie new

An excellent example of contemporary Hopi pottery by the late master Rachel Sahmie (1956-2022), this polychrome plate features an elegant Sikyatki Revival composition inspired by designs used by the artist's ancestor Nampeyo (1858-1942), the matriarch of modern Pueblo pottery. As a fifth-generation matrilineal descendant of Nampeyo, Rachel continued a unique artistic legacy. This piece features a hanging lug for vertical display, a feature often included on Nampeyo's pieces. This bowl measures 6 3/4" in diameter by 3 3/4" high. It is signed "Nampeyo Koo Loo" by the artist. A fantastic piece by a significant artist at an affordable price.

DS4 -- $900
