Hopi Effigy Wall Pocket by Nampeyo, c.1915 new

This innovative wall pocket by Nampeyo is a great example of the artist's high period around 1915. This piece combines a traditional form with a figurative face painted on the exterior with classic Sikyatki Revival geometric accents. Nampeyo's figurative and sculptural work increased during the years that Austrian sculptor Emry Kopta lived and worked at First Mesa, suggesting a collaboration between the two artists. This piece is traditionally made from native Hopi clay and pit fired traditionally. It measures 6" high by 4 1/4" in diameter. An excellent addition to any collection of eccentrics.
