Description
This is a stunning masterpiece of Hopi pottery, featuring many design elements of the Sikyatki revival. The double bird design was taken from an older Sikyatki piece excavated by Jesse Fewkes in 1895. The design features two hummingbirds sipping nectar from an abstract flower that morphs into a Kachina dancer’s headdress with an eagle tail. The piece has a large presence.
Grace Chapella was a student of Nampeyo and made ceramics for decades. She is considered one of the early masters of the Sikyatki Revival.
This piece measures 15” in height by 8” in diameter and has two drilled holes at the base where it was used as a lamp.
