Zia Four Color Jar, c.1900
This four color bird jar is an excellent example of early 20th century Zia pottery. This piece features a well-drawn four panel bird design painted on an elegant, thin-walled jar. Overall this piece is the work of an accomplished master potter. It is handmade from native Zia clay and pit fired outdoors in the traditional fashion. It shows good signs of age, including a secondary red band around the base. It measures 11" high by 11 3/4" in diameter. One small rim chip has been reglued. It is otherwise in excellent condition. Provenance: From the collection of Nancy Florsheim of Chicago. A great addition to any collection of historic pueblo pottery.
