There is no decoration on this jar, and even the black slip is only applied half-way down the surface of the jar. In later work, the slip extends further down and decorations become paramount. On this storage jar, the black fire clouds themselves, on the unslipped base, serve as the only decoration. Yet the spherical form is masterful and beautiful, form and function perfectly united.
