North American Native Art

Expanding far beyond the Southwest, we add diversity to the collections in the forms of beautiful carvings from the tribes of the Northwest Coast, Alaska, and Artic regions. Their bold artistic contribution is important to our collections, just as our other feature, Plateau beadwork, holds unique presentation within the gallery’s offerings. The design and craftsmanship of Plateau beaded bags, for example, were recently highlighted with an in-gallery exhibition in 2006 entitled The Glenn Lafontaine Collection of Plateau Beaded Bags, which displayed 20 exceptional examples.
